**Pipe Fitting**

This trade covers the fabrication and installation of piping systems for water supply, drainage, gas, fire protection and mechanical services in buildings, including measuring, cutting, joining and supporting pipes so that the system is correctly aligned, securely fixed and leak free.

1. Read and interpret piping drawings, isometric drawings and installation instructions

2. Take site measurements and set out pipe routes, levels and support positions

3. Measure, mark and cut steel, copper, PVC and other pipes to the required lengths

4. Thread, groove, bend and prepare pipe ends for jointing

5. Join pipes using threaded, grooved, flanged, solvent cement and mechanical fittings

6. Install elbows, tees, reducers, unions and other fittings according to drawings

7. Fix pipe hangers, brackets, clamps and supports at the correct spacing and level

8. Install valves and check that the system is aligned and properly supported

9. Carry out pressure testing and check joints for leaks

10. Use hand tools and power tools such as pipe cutters, threaders, benders and wrenches safely

11. Complete the practical test within the given time following safe work practices
