**Structural Steel Fitting**

This trade covers the fitting, assembling and erecting of structural steel members such as columns, beams, girders, bracings and purlins for buildings and structures, including alignment, bolting and preparation for welding so that the steel frame is plumb, level and securely connected.

1. Read and interpret structural steel drawings, erection drawings and connection details

2. Identify steel sections, plates, bolts and fittings from the drawings and marking plans

3. Measure, mark and set out steel members and connection points

4. Cut, drill and prepare steel plates and sections using cutting and drilling tools

5. Fit and assemble steel members, cleats, gusset plates and stiffeners according to drawings

6. Align and position columns, beams and bracings to the correct line, level and plumb

7. Install and tighten high strength bolts and nuts to the required torque and sequence

8. Tack and prepare joints for welding and support members during fitting

9. Use lifting gear, chain blocks and rigging equipment safely during positioning

10. Check the completed work for alignment, plumb, level and bolt tightness

11. Complete the practical test within the given time following safe work practices
