This trade covers the laying of precast concrete kerbs, channels and drains along roads, footpaths, car parks and building perimeters, including setting out, bedding, alignment, jointing and backfilling so that the finished work is straight, level and drains correctly.

1. Read and interpret civil and drainage drawings, levels and setting out details

2. Set out kerb and drain lines, levels and gradients using string lines, pegs and levelling instruments

3. Excavate and prepare the trench and formation to the required width and depth

4. Lay and compact the concrete bed or granular base to the correct thickness and level

5. Handle, lift and position precast kerbs, channels and drain sections safely

6. Lay precast kerbs and drains to the correct line, level, gradient and alignment

7. Form neat joints, corners, radii and drops and point the joints with mortar

8. Fix haunching and concrete backing to hold the kerbs firmly in place

9. Backfill and compact behind the kerbs and drains and make good the surrounding area

10. Check the finished work for line, level, gradient and water flow

11. Complete the practical test within the given time following safe work practices
