This trade covers the installation of water supply, sanitary and drainage pipework and the fixing of sanitary fittings such as basins, water closets, taps and showers in buildings, so that the system is correctly connected, securely supported and free from leaks.

1. Read and interpret plumbing and sanitary drawings, isometric drawings and installation instructions

2. Take site measurements and set out pipe routes, levels, gradients and fixture positions

3. Measure, mark and cut copper, PPR, uPVC, stainless steel and galvanised steel pipes to size

4. Join pipes using threaded, compression, solvent cement, heat fusion and push fit fittings

5. Install hot and cold water supply pipework with the correct fittings, valves and stop cocks

6. Install soil, waste and vent pipes with the correct gradient, traps and cleaning eyes

7. Fix pipe brackets, clips, hangers and supports at the correct spacing

8. Install and connect sanitary fittings such as wash basins, water closets, sinks, taps, mixers and showers

9. Carry out pressure testing and water testing and check for leaks

10. Use hand tools and power tools such as pipe cutters, threaders, fusion machines and wrenches safely

11. Complete the practical test within the given time following safe work practices
